In 2007 the founders of the event envisioned an ultra running race that covers a distance of over 200 kms. In the first year only 200 runners participated in the race. Since then the initial handful of runners have been joined by many many more and by 2018 the number of participants exceeded 11.000. In the video below you can get a taste of the super fun atmosphere of the event.
Nothing shows better the growing popularity of NN Ultrabalaton than these numbers: in 2016 registrations sold out in 54 days, in 2017 in 54 hours and in 2018 registrations came pouring in so fast that the event became a total sellout in only 37 minutes
A huge thank you to all the participants who have registered for NN Ultrabalaton 2019! We are proud to announce that registrations for the race have sold out in only 22 minutes!
In the first few years, the start zone of Ultrabalaton was set up near the Inner Lake of Tihany, then in 2013 it was relocated to Balatonaliga and in 2019, for safety reasons we decided to move it to Balatonfüred. The direction of the race will remain unchanged (towards the West). Cut off time will be 32 hours for both individual runners and relay teams. In 2019 we plan to have 48 relay points and almost this many aid stations along the route to reduce congestion and make racing more smooth and stress-free for the participants.
OUR ULTRA RUNNERS
We truly believe that all our individual runners who take part in this incredibly difficult race are real life heroes and we will do all that we can to help them achieve their goal.
The course record among individual runners is 18 hours, 30 minutes and 20 seconds, set by British runner Dan Lawson in 2017. In the history of Ultrabalaton only once did a female runner top the all-time ranking list. Her name is MD. Szilvia Lubics. So far no one has managed to double a first place on the all-time ranking list.
During the past 12 years 481 ultra runners have completed the distance at least once within the cut off time and it is always a great pleasure to welcome „old friends” among the participants. Guilles Pallaruelo, the iconic figure of Ultrabalaton is the only ultra runner who has competed every year since 2007 and finished the race successfully each time.
Most of our registrants opt for running in relay teams. Planning, organizing and travelling together is a great team-forging experience. UB makes friendships stronger and inspires strangers to work together towards a common goal. We can safely say that there is no better team building training program than a running race.
During the 221- kilometre race everyone will have to face their limits at some point and the race will also give them the opportunity to get to know themselves better. At the end of the day all the individual results will be added up and the teams will leave the event with memorable experiences.
By now NN Ultrabalaton has become a household name.
An exhausting, but at the same time exhilarating challenge, an unforgettable experience and a fantastic party.
A running fiesta and a pilgrimage, where all participants will be put to the test.
